Being in the “Now”

When we see the world based upon what we know it to be, we are seeing the world through memories. What we know is true is that everything changes, all of the time. We don’t have the past in our lives anymore–that is gone. We don’t have the future–that is yet to be. But what we do have is NOW…this moment…this moment…this moment. The older we get, the harder it is to see things with fresh eyes, but when we do, our experiences change. If we can focus upon the present–be mindful of what is happening rather than experiencing the moment through our memories or expectations, our ability to enjoy that moment and ultimately our quality of life, increases dramatically. Instead of rejecting what is, we do not resist it. We go with the flow. There is a mindfulness movement happening all over the world right now. Mindfulness is experiencing the present moment as it is. Why is this happening? Perhaps it is because people are looking for ways to find peace in their lives. That peace cannot be found outside of ourselves. It is an inside job. “This is a wonderful day, I have never seen this one before.” Maya Angelou
